Splav releases information on new air-launched rockets

The Russian Federal State Unitary Enterprise Splav released new information in August on its latest 122 mm and 80 mm calibre air-launched guided rockets.

Two new versions of the 122 mm rocket are based on a more powerful rocket motor that is smaller than the original pattern with new warheads and new types of fuze. The S-13 OFS1 rocket is 278 cm long and weighs 70 kg at launch. It carries a 38 kg HE-fragmentation warhead containing 15.5 kg of explosive filling and initiated by a proximity fuze.

The S-13 OFS2 is similar but uses a U-404 point detonating fuze developed and manufactured by the ZID machine building plant named after F E Dzherzhinskiy, which is located in Perm. It is 275 cm long and weighs 70 kg. Both rockets can be fired from the existing B-13L five-tube launcher.

The third new 80 mm rocket is the S-8 KOR1 laser-guided round. Intended for use against armoured targets, this rocket is fitted with a nose-mounted semi-active laser seeker and six trajectory-correcting solid-propellant thrusters. The complete round is 170 cm long, weighs 16.7 kg at launch and carries an antitank warhead designed to penetrate 350 mm of armour.
