CM-32 enters pre-production phase in Taiwan

Following extensive trials with four prototypes, a pre-production batch of 15 CM-32 8 x 8 armoured personnel carriers (APCs) is being built in Taiwan.

Also known as the Yunpao (Cloud Leopard), the CM-32 is being developed under the leadership of Taiwan's Ordnance Readiness Development Centre with assistance from overseas companies at the subcontractor level.

Seven vehicles will have a combat weight of about 22 tonnes and be fitted with a remote-control weapon station armed with a 7.62 mm or 12.7 mm machine gun (MG), while the remaining eight will have a combat weight of 24 tonnes and be fitted with a two-person power-operated turret armed with a stabilised 25 mm M242 cannon, 7.62 mm co-axial MG and a roof-mounted 7.62 mm MG. None of these pre-production CM-32s will be amphibious.
